The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been reasonably healthy this year, but a potentially disastrous loss appeared to occur late last night at the end of the game between the Bucs and the Vikings. With the game long since decided and on the final defensive snap of the game, defensive end Michael Bennett had to be helped off the field with an ankle injury.

His injury was not addressed after the game, but Greg Schiano noted that he should be okay in today's press conference. According to Rick Stroud, Tom Krasniqi, Stephen Holder and other beat writers Michael Bennett said that he'd be fine today, too.

That's good news, because the Bucs can't afford to lose their leading sack artist. Bennett has five sacks on the season and has been a very big part of the NFL's best run defense. Bennett's playing under a restricted free agent tender and the Buccaneers should look to sign him to a new contract after the season.

Tampa Bay does have a little more depth at defensive end with Da'Quan Bowers' return, who took 12 snaps yesterday in his first game of the season. Bowers suffered an Achilles injury during the offseason and will now have 10 days before facing the Oakland Raiders to become a bigger part of the team's defense.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers shocked just about everyone in the nation by going into Minnesota and beating the living tar out of the Vikings in front of a national audience. What did we learn from the game?

What a difference a few days make - huh Bucs fans? After Sunday's soul crushing loss to the New Orleans Saints, the Bucs had to pull themselves back together and face a 5-2 Minnesota Vikings team on the road on a short week, in front of a loud hostile crowd and a national television audience expecting to see the Vikes put on a show.

A show was delivered but it wasn't from the team that was undefeated at home including victories against playoff contenders San Francisco and Arizona.

With that in mind - what did we learn from the can of whupass the Bucs opened up in Minnesota?

1. Doctor StrangeJosh or How I Stopped Caring About Josh Freeman's Completion Percentage and Loved the Bomb. You know, it's time to stop worrying about those worm burners Josh Freeman seems to have every single week. Is it maddening? Of course. But let's face it Bucs fans, Josh isn't Tom Brady or Drew Brees. He wasn't accurate in college, he's not in the Pros.

Does it matter? Hall of Famer Johnny Unitas has a 54.7% completion percentage. John Elway was a 56.9% passer Brett Favre had 5 seasons of his Hall of Fame career where he completed less than 60% of his passes. Eli Manning is a career 58.8% passer.

What I'm saying is we've been conditioned for years in a West Coast offense philosophy. It began with Clyde Christensen, continued with Jon Gruden and remained with Greg LOLsen. For us, completion percentage is of utmost importance. Folks, it's time we let go and understand that if our guy throws for 300 yds (or close to it) and 3 touchdowns without turning it over to the other team every single week - he's pretty damned good.

2. If not for Adrian Peterson's 64 yard run in the third quarter, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense would have completed a terrific effort against one of the best backs in the National Football League. Without that bust out, Peterson had 14 carries for 59 yards, which was well below his 5.1 season average. Of course, the play happened and excited the Vikings crowd for a brief moment, ruining a stellar performance by the Bucs defense.

3. Note to NFL Network: Even if you think the game is going to be a blowout in a certain direction - it might be helpful to focus some of your broadcast on the other team. Before the game, we were subjected to Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin and Jared Allen highlights over and over. When they weren't pumping up the Vikings, they were talking Cowboys. Then there was the cursory, "Oh by the way, they're playing the Bucs and they usually keep games close so it might be worth watching for awhile."

It was interesting to hear Deion Sanders say the Bucs had a terrible offense and Rich Eisen making plans to talk to Percy Harvin or AP after the game.

Tampa Bay has more stars on their offense than Minnesota does but because the NFL "experts" gave Tampa Bay no shot - the nation got shocked by Doug Martin, Mike Williams, V-Jax, Josh Freeman and the spunky Bucs defense.

4. It's a shame Donald Penn will be remembered more for beating the crap out of Jared Allen than the performance he put on the Vikings' defensive end. With the exception of his emotionally charged rush after the altercation, Penn dominated the perennial Pro Bowl sack master.

5. I think it's time to stop whining about the play calling of offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan. In our Madden/Fantasy Football society, we think every play should go for gobs of yardage and scores - but the truth is - while every play is designed to score - many plays are run to set up a bigger play down the line. The bottom line is that Sullivan's offense is averaging 441.2 yds and 31 points per game over the last four games. That's impressive no matter who your opponents are. What's scary is he is still learning his players and they are still learning his offense. Imagine how good it will be when they actually know what they're doing.

6. So does anyone think Brandon McDonald just got himself Wally Pipp'd? Leonard Johnson played a solid ball game in relief of the injured McDonald, intercepting a pass and making a key pass breakup (and near interception) on Percy Harvin. Johnson made a good accounting of himself throughout the ballgame. In fact, the corner who struggled this week was Eric Wright - who after a fast start earlier in the season has struggled the last couple weeks facing the top receiving threats in Aquib Talib's absence.

7. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Doug Martin's performance last night. Doug channeled Emmitt Smith with his long, powerful runs and his 64 yd touchdown reception was simply want to. This kid is already a special football player. Seeing him grow more comfortable against NFL level competition and begin to make plays has to be exciting for any Bucs fan.

8. Speaking of making plays - how about the dynamic duo of Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams? Williams looks like the guy we remember in 2010, while Jackson has earned every penny of his massive free agent contract. These two players and the trust the quarterback has instilled in them is the primary reason for the turnaround on offense.

9. I find it interesting how a team will be talked up before a game as a Bucs opponent, then if they lose to Tampa Bay the feeling is, "Well, they're not that good - they lost to Tampa." The Vikings were a legit 5-2 with one of the most dynamic defenses in the NFL and an undefeated record at home. Whether they took the Bucs lightly is irrelevant. Tampa Bay went into hostile territory on a short week against a quality opponent and kicked their cans up and down the field. Bucs fans should be proud of their team today.

10. So the question is where do we go from here? Traditionally, Tampa Bay plays poorly on the west coast - but this team is very "non-Tampa" like. If the Bucs can get the win against a subpar Oakland team - they're back to .500 at the halfway mark of the season with games against the teams they're chasing to get back into the playoff race still on the schedule. If the Bucs can string a few wins together in the next couple weeks, the confidence could very well feed an exciting second half.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers jumped out to an early lead once again, but this time they didn't let go. Hard running by Doug Martin and some key third-down conversion gave the Bucs a dominant win in an unleashed Metrodome.

Rookie running back Doug Martin's 214 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns propelled the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to their third victory on the season. Travelling to Minnesota on a short week to play on Thursday night was no easy task, but the Bucs are now just the sixth team in three years to win on the road on a Thursday, pushing their record to 3-4 on the season.

The Bucs had been playing some genuine, old-school Buc Ball earlier this season, with defensive contests decided in the fourth quarter, but the tone has changed the past few weeks. With 416 total yards of offense, the Bucs topped 400 yards for the third consecutive game, having scored 102 points in three weeks. The Vikings felt the pain in an embarrassing 36-17 loss.

The Bucs got off to a fast start as they've done in most weeks, with two turnovers and some hard running by Doug Martin keying an early 20-7 lead. Doug Martin started the day with a 41-yard run and didn't look back from there. Michael Bennett forced an early fumble leading to another field goal, and a tough toss to Vincent Jackson as Josh Freeman was knocked to the ground set up an Erik Lorig touchdown. Old man Barber than added another forced fumble to set up a Mike Williams touchdown toss in the back of the endzone.

The third-year receiver has been back to his rookie form this year, and showed off his outstanding ball skills once again, managing 6 catches for 68 yards and a touchdown on the day. His 34-yard fourth-quarter catch gave the Bucs a much-needed first down at the end, effectively sealing the game.

The Bucs weren't secure in their win. An early Percy Harvin score kept Minnesota in the game despite a largely dominant performance on Tampa Bay's side. When Doug Martin pulled off an amazing 79-yard touchdown on a screen pass, the game seemed out of reach at 30-10. But one Adrian Peterson run later, the Vikings were right back in it.

Jared Allen then managed to fire up the crowd and get the Metrodome into the game, as a fight with offensive tackle Donald Penn sparked him toward a quick sack and a three-and-out for Tampa Bay's offense. That shift of momentum didn't last long, however, and Tampa Bay's defense would hold the Vikings to those 17 points for the rest of the game.

The Buccaneers defense had been much-maligned in recent weeks, but where their pass defense was usually a problem, it was their normally dominant run defense that struggled to cope with Adrian Peterson. Of course, Peterson is the best running back in the NFL and it's hard for any team to limit him. But the pass defense picked up the slack, notching three sacks on the day while undrafted rookie Leonard Johnson notched a late interception in his first career start.

Josh Freeman was allowed to close out the game on magnificent nine-minute, sixteen-play drive in the fourth quarter. That drive featured four third-and-long conversion by the Tampa Bay quarterback who had been inconsistent on the day, but he produced when it counted. The drive was capped off by Doug Martin, who drove Jared Allen backwards into the endzone on his way to his second score of the day. Meanwhile, Josh Freeman posted his third consecutive three-touchdown game, becoming the first Buccaneer quarterback to do so.

One thing will stand out from tonight's game: Doug Martin's stiff-arm ruled the day. His 214 yards from scrimmage represented over half of Tampa Bay's offensive production and his two touchdowns sealed what should be a breakout performance for the hard running rookie. His 79-yard touchdown catch was a thing of beauty, as he shoved a defensive lineman to the ground while running away from everyone. This was a true break-out performance for the rookie, who got a massive 32 touches on the day and was the team's leading rusher, leading receiver and leading scorer.

The Bucs will have ten <strike>weeks</strike> days to rest before they travel to Oakland to face the struggling Raiders. The Bucs are 3-4, but they're far behind the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South, while they're struggling to keep pace in a Wild Card race that has gotten away from them. This win should give them a spark and could put them right back in it, though.

Injuries: Defensive end MIchael Bennett had to be helped off the field at the end of the game. His status remains unclear. Da'Quan Bowers returned to action and played a few snaps, notching one tackle for loss.

It's late at night, but it's never too late to celebrate a good win. The Bucs beat the Vikings 36-17 and move to 3-4 on the season.

Doug Martin has 214 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lead 36-17 in the middle of the fourth quarter. It's been a pretty good day. Here's one of the best moments of the game: Doug Martin pushing Jared Allen into the endzone. Yep, diminutive running back Doug Martin pushing dominant defensive end Jared Allen into the endzone. That's all lower-body strength. Impressive, no?

Doug Martin's breakout game. Awesome.

Jared Allen is a bad boy, just in case you didn't know that. The Bucs were dominating the Vikings, holding a 30-10 lead at one point, but the Vikings managed to turn around that situation with some good plays. The first was a long Adrian Peterson touchdown, while the second was...a Jared Allen fight. Yep. Here's the footage:

And here's the result:

Yeah, Allen was not happy - and he immediately got a sack to prove it. A quick three-and-out forced by the Tampa Bay defense fixed that issue, but there's plenty of time for the Minnesota Vikings to get back into the game. The crowd is certainly more into it after that sequence of events.

By the way, this is what Allen felt after that sack:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are holding on to a two-score lead in this 30-17 game, but things have been going the Vikings way recently. A bloody nose on Jared Allen, inflicted by Donald Penn, got the crowd fired up. Allen added a sack to escalate that - but the Bucs added a quick three-and-out to correct some of that. Can the Bucs hold on?
