Another Sunday gone by, another step closer to the 2014 NFL draft order. It's starting to become fairly clear who the top contenders for the number one overall pick are: the winless Oakland Raiders, the hapless New York Jets, the hopeful Jacksonville Jaguars and the flabbergasting Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Not surprisingly, all of these teams lost this week. So there are no real changes here -- except in the strength of schedule, which is based on each team's full-season schedule. One of the biggest contenders is Tampa Bay. Not only are they 1-6, which is pretty bad, but they win all the strength of schedule tiebreakers: they have one of the easiest schedules in the league, because the NFC South is godawful.
One interesting fact: all of these teams have young quarterbacks they placed their franchise hopes in. Derek Carr for the Raiders, who has looked pretty competent so far. Geno Smith for the Jets who...has not. Blake Bortles for the Jaguars, who has looked characteristically talented and raw. And Mike Glennon for the Buccaneers, who's been up-and-down as well. It'll be interesting to see which one of them foregoes a franchise quarterback this year.
