It’s time for a new manager at Bucs Nation.

After six years of covering the Bucs for SB Nation, it’s time for me to move on. It’s been a pleasure to help bring a lot of in-depth coverage of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the fans, and I couldn’t have done it without all of the great writers who have contributed to the site over the years.

Apply here

It was a lot of fun, even if the Bucs were mostly terrible throughout my time here. Covering the three major coaching changes, the general manager search, and the annual scramble in the NFL draft were highlights for me. The opportunity to add some analytical depth to Bucs coverage was particularly valuable.

At some point, though, you have to realise that your time has come, and that someone else would be a better fit to take Bucs Nation to greater heights. I just don’t have the time and dedication to really get the most out of this site anymore. I’m looking forward to experiencing football as a fan again, instead of as a writer.

So thank you for reading, and thank you for staying with us—and lots of luck to the next blog manager, whoever they may be.

If you want to be that person, you can apply for the position through the Vox Media jobs portal.

So filling you’ll forget all about the game.

The Super Bowl airs on Sunday, and that means it’s time for a few things: a good game, fun commercials, and most of all, good food to distract you from the fact that either Tom Brady will get yet another ring, or the Philadelphia Eagles will get their first Super Bowl win. Ew.

So, hey, better make that food so delicious that your food coma will prevent you from absorbing the game. There’s a lot of classic you could go with: nacho’s, chicken wings, chili, pizza...even crab dip, apparently. Me, though, I’m going with a less traditional option.

My favorite: a creamy, super cheesy, baked mac and cheese. Carnal Dish has the best recipe for this classic: bechamel sauce, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese. Plus seasoning—can’t forget that. I’ve been adding chipotle’s in adobo sauce to the mix, which adds some delicious kick. But the beauty of mac and cheese is that you can add so many different things to it, and it’ll work.

Most of all, though, a good mac and cheese is so filling that you’ll forget about that hideous game on the TV.

What’s your favorite Super Bowl meal?

Todd Monken is now an offensive coordinator exclusively.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have promoted Skyler Fulton to wide receivers coach, the team announced today. Fulton will take over for Todd Monken, who will now focus on his offensive coordinator duties exclusively.

Fulton joined the Bucs in 2016 as a diversity coaching fellow, and has worked his way up the coaching chain rapidly. He’d only coached at very small schools before joining the Bucs, most recently as the wide receivers coach at Citrus College. He has no pro experience, and played his college football under Dirk Koetter at Arizona State.

The Bucs have an outstanding receiving corps, featuring Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson, Chris Godwin and Adam Humphries, among others, so Fulton has plenty of talent to work with.

Meanwhile, Monken will now get to focus his attentions on being an offensive coordinator exclusively, after having a dual role (OC and WR coach) the past two years. It’s not clear how Monken and head coach Dirk Koetter will divide their responsibilities, though. Koetter will almost certainly retain his playcalling duties. He said as much in his season-ending press conference, anyway.

Everything you need to know to watch the 2018 Pro Bowl.

The 2018 Pro Bowl happens today, at 3:00 p.m. ET. The final game before the Super Bowl, the only times we can see something resembling NFL football until the preseason.

The Pro Bowl, of course, is a lot more than just a game. It’s a reward for the best players in the NFL, voted on by their peers, coaches, and fans. And that reward features a lot of fun during the week—like a skills competition, and a dodgeball battle. The actual game is just the final act of a fun week—don’t expect too much competitive play, is what I’m saying.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have two representatives at the Pro Bowl: defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, who was voted in for the sixth straight year, and linebacker Kwon Alexander, who is replacing the Seattle Seahawks’ Bobby Wagner. Not a lot of Bucs, then, but still enough to root for the NFC rather than the AFC.

What’s your favorite place?

The Super Bowl is nearly here, and we’ll get to see which hateable team lifts the trophy this year: the New England Patriots, or the Philadelphia Eagles. What a nightmare.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven’t been to a Super Bowl in 15 years, of course, so rooting interests aren’t too relevant for us. And even this matchup won’t stop many Bucs fans from watching the Super Bowl every year. But one question pops up when you do: where, exactly, do you watch the big game? At a bar, in the stadium (lucky), at home, or somewhere else?

For me, watching it at home is easily the best choice. The TV experience is so good that you’re seeing more at home than you are inside the stadium, and you get the advantage of seeing all the commercials. It’s also a little more chill than a cramped bar where you may not get a great view of the screen.

Added bonus: homemade snacks and cheaper drinks, though the former will take you a little effort to get right. And the latter can, too, if you really want to put in the effort.

Where do you prefer watching the Super Bowl?

“There it is, the dagger’s in!”

The Super Bowl is coming up, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the outside looking in, once again. As they have been for every year of their existence, bar one: the 2002 season, which culminated in a dominant beating down of the Oakland Raiders. Jon Gruden was on the sidelines for the Bucs, and is now coaching the other team again, for added nostalgia.

The Bucs’ best Super Bowl moment to me, is Derrick Brooks’ pick six in Super Bowl XXXVII. It’s been shown so many times, but Gene Deckerhoff’s shouts never cease to thrill me. “There it is! The dagger’s in! We’re gonna win the Super Bowl!” Can’t beat that for a Bucs Super Bowl memory.

The play itself was perfect for that Bucs defense, too. The team was trying to close out a game, and dropping into soft zone defenses. And while Rich Gannon tried to find the hole over the middle, Brooks jumped in from nowhere and grabbed the ball out of the air. Fooled the quarterback, like he did so many times.

Of course, that’s not quite the most memorable play in Bucs history—that’d be the one that got them to the big game: Ronde Barber’s pick six in the NFC Championship, against the Philadelphia Eagles, in the final game in the old Veterans Stadium before it was demolished. That play is legendary. Brooks’ pick six is merely awesome.
