After the Buccaneers won the Super Bowl back in February, quite a few players were rewarded with contract extensions or new contracts entirely. With those transactions done, the team turned its attention to rewarding some members of the front office and coaching staff, as promotions for seven members of the organization were announced on Friday.
One name among the seven that many will recognize is Mike Greenberg, one of the Bucs’ salary cap wizards whose genius has paid off for years—and especially so in 2021 as the team managed to bring back all 22 starters from its Super Bowl-winning team. Greenberg, who is entering his 14th year in the NFL and 12th in Tampa Bay, was promoted from director to Vice President of Football Administration.
Another familiar name receiving a promotion is John Spytek, who has a big hand in the team’s free agency and NFL Draft preparation. He is being elevated from director to Vice President of Player Personnel in his sixth year with the Bucs.
A few others within the organization’s scouting department are being elevated as well, with Sean Conley going from Scouting Assistant to Pro Scout and both Shane Scannell and Alex Smith moving up from their positions as Pro Scouts to both holding the title of Assistant Director of Pro Scouting.
Entering his seventh year with the Bucs, Duke Preston is going from director to Vice President of Player Engagement, a role that sees him focus on helping players grow both personally and professionally.
And finally, the lone coaching staff promotion involves John Van Dam, who steps up from handling offensive quality control responsibilities to Assistant Tight Ends Coach.
