Buccaneers not favored to win Super Bowl LVI

Decent odds for those confident the Bucs will repeat

Ask just about anyone who’s won a Super Bowl and they’ll tell you the only thing harder is winning two, which is what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers enter 2021 looking to do.

So, maybe this explains why the Bucs aren’t the odds-on favorites to win Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles in February of 2022. It is, of course, incredibly difficult to get to back-to-back championship games, let alone win both of them. Perhaps it's the fact Bruce Arians’ squad would have to play this one outside of Raymond James Stadium.

Of course, if making it to two Super Bowls is harder than making it to one, then making it to three must be really hard. Right?

Well, according to the oddsmakers at Betonline.ag, not only are the Kansas City Chiefs favored to go to a third straight title fight, they’re going to win this one.

Someone once said, ‘Two out of three ain't bad’, and the Chiefs would surely look forward to extracting a measure of revenge against Tom Brady and his Bucs squad. Tyreek Hill would love the opportunity to flash the deuces to Antoine Winfield Jr. knowing the Tampa defense has a long flight home to the southeast.

Some might feel the Bucs (+600) are slighted in these odds, and there may be something to it, but nobody is expecting a Chiefs (+575) blowout here either with the two teams separated by just twenty-five points. Those are odds points, not on-field points.

Of course, equally interesting - to me, anyway - are how the oddsmakers see the road to the big game going down.

According to these odds, the Buffalo Bills (+1200) are favored to lose to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game again while the Los Angeles Rams (+1200) fall one game short of being the second team to host play a home Super Bowl.

The stiffest odds you’ll find here lie with the Detroit Lions and Houston Texans (+15000). I guess there’s not a lot of confidence Jared Goff will ride back into L.A. with his new pride. And Houston, well, you know...

Of course, the Buccaneers are heavy favorites (-160) to win the NFC South compared to the New Orleans Saints (+300) at this time.

What do you think of the odds? Are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers being underestimated again?
