A little over a week after being designated with the franchise tag by the Buccaneers, wide receiver Chris Godwin signed the tender Thursday. The figure for playing under the tag in 2021 is $15.9 million.

Godwin and the Bucs have both expressed interest on getting a long term deal done. By signing the tender, the two sides have until mid-July to get a new contract done. If not, the team can take the same approach taken with Shaquil Barrett after franchising the veteran pass rusher last season, which turned into getting a deal done before free agency just days ago.

The 25-year-old was the organization’s top priority heading into the offseason following their Super Bowl LV victory. He was instrumental to the Buccaneers playoff run and has been a key part of the Tampa Bay offense since being drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He finished the 2020 campaign with 65 receptions for 840 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games.
