After Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians said that the team would be in good shape for another title run in 2021 if they can bring back five or six of their top agents, many have wondered which players that could be. Some have speculated that edge rusher Shaquil Barrett or wide receiver Chris Godwin are likely gone. Others have even said not just one of those two but linebacker Lavonte David could join them.
In their latest offseason free agent projections, Spotrac is predicting that Barrett and David would re-sign with Tampa Bay while Godwin heads to the Indianapolis Colts to join head coach Frank Reich and recently acquired quarterback Carson Wentz.
On Barrett, Spotrac states that while he may be able to get over $20 million per year outside of the Bucs, a lesser deal for both parties would be the best move. They also project the Buccaneers to make David the best offer to stay.
As for their prediction on Godwin leaving Tampa Bay, they say due to his age and skillset, someone would most likely overpay for his services and the Colts would be that team.
Others they are predicting to stay with the Bucs are wide receiver Antonio Brown and tight end Rob Gronkowski. They see defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and running back Leonard Fournette leaving — where Suh goes to Carolina and Fournette goes to Pittsburgh.
Spotrac estimates the Bucs having over $27 million in cap space. Below are the projections they have for the Bucs free agents they have returning and those that would be playing elsewhere.
Returning
Barrett - 4 years, $75M
David - 3 years, $39M
Brown - 1 year, $2.5M
Gronkowski - 1 year, $8.5M
Leaving
Godwin (IND) - 5 years, $90M
Suh (CAR) - 1 year, $7M
Fournette (PIT) - 2 years, $16M
