Buccaneers are highly favored to land J.J. Watt

Could the Brady Effect play a role in Watt’s decision?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be a popular landing spot for several free agents this offseason. Whether it happens or not will remain to be seen, but that has stopped the oddsmakers to from setting the odds of some of those free agents — including recently released veteran pass rusher J.J. Watt.

Sports Betting Dime has listed many potential landing spot for Watt and they have the Bucs listed as the team with the second-highest odds to sign the former Texans All-Pro.

Steelers +175
Tampa Bay +200
Green Bay +550
Baltimore +650
LA Rams +1100
Dallas +1200
Cleveland +1400
Miami +1500
New England +1500
Tennessee +1500

Of the top four teams listed as favorites for Watt’s services, Tampa Bay has the most cap space available. That’s not to say that they will go deep into their pocket books to bring in the soon-to-be 32-year-old, but it is certainly worth noting.

Sporting News lists the Bucs as the most appealing landing spot for Watt as that is one of the teams with the most favorable chances of getting to Super Bowl LVI. The 2011 first rounder recently stated that at his age he wants a championship and has also talked about his appreciation for Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady. That’s not to say, though, that Watt would entertain a low-dollar, prove-it contract to play in Tampa Bay unless that desire to be a part of a potential championship run is truly what drives his decision.

Can a Bucs-Watt pairing be on the horizon? This storyline will certainly be an interesting one to keep an eye on.
