The man behind the Buccaneers defensive success in the past couple of seasons is set to interview for a head coaching position next week.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Atlanta Falcons will be interviewing Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Todd Bowles for their head coaching vacancy.
Per a league source, the Falcons will interview Bowles next week for their vacant head-coaching position.
Since joining head coach Bruce Arians on the Tampa Bay sidelines, Bowles has had the Buccaneers defense rank first overall against the run in 2019 and 2020. They improved to sixth overall in total defense during the 2020 regular season after ranking 15th the previous season. In 2019, they were 29th in points per game allowed with 28.1 but improved to eighth overall in 2020 with 22.2 points per game given up.
Arians recently advised his coordinators Byron Leftwich as well as Bowles to not take NFL head coaching positions without the potential team having the general manager interview them as well. The Falcons are currently also interviewing for their vacant general manager position.
