Things didn’t look good the moment Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans injured his leg during Sunday’s win over the Falcons. In fact, his status for the entire playoffs was immediately up in the air.
Fortunately, Evans and the rest of Tampa Bay avoid a big scare as head coach Bruce Arians confirmed on Monday reports that there was no damage to his veteran receiver’s knee.
“The MRI showed no structural damage. It was a hyperextension,” Arians said. “I saw him in the training room a little while ago – there’s very, very little swelling and he’ll be day-to-day.
“He’s running in the pool today. Hopefully he can practice on Thursday.”
If the Bucs do have to play without Evans on Saturday, they’ll certainly lean heavily on guys like Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown — who has picked up the offense really well the past few weeks. But for now, the Buccaneers will remain hopeful on Evans and see how this week progresses for him.
