While some Saints fans will certainly be surprised not to see Michael Thomas on the first-team of this preseason list, it appears the voters gave significant weight to duration of success voting in two receivers who have been at the top of the league for much longer.
Few surprises on the offensive first and second-teams other than maybe some preferential placements. Rob Gronkowski of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was expected to land on one of the two teams, but the fact he earned over 80% of votes was a bit surprising given his injury history and year off from the game.
Locked On Saints host Ross Jackson himself expressed some surprise that Andrus Peat landed on the second-team as a left guard, something we all chalk up to a lack of talent at the position overall, and not just in the NFC South either.
Tristan Wirfs is the only rookie to make this year’s preseason squad as the right tackle is expected to play a big role in improving the Bucs’ offensive line as they seek to provide better protection for new quarterback, Tom Brady.
Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey earned the biggest share of votes with 94.4% of voters choosing him for his first-team slot. The highest vote getter from Tampa Bay’s roster was wide receiver Mike Evans who earned nods from 90.3% of the voters participating.

As a newcomer to the division, fans of the NFC South apparently have high expectations for Dante Fowler Jr. as he joins the Atlanta Falcons in 2020. After having four players make the offensive squad, the Falcons came back on defense and had another four land on that side of the ball as well.
Leading the defensive selections however, was the New Orleans Saints whose eight selections outpaced the Buccaneers by just one spot. The big surprise of this group wasn’t that second-year linebacker Devin White made the list, or even the first-team necessarily. The fact he led voters among all linebackers is what really surprised, as White took home 87.4% of the votes.
While White was the highest Bucs player as far as receiving votes, he didn’t lead the entire divisional defense. That honor went to New Orleans Saints edge defender Cameron Jordan who received 90.6% of votes for this list.
