Teddy Bridgewater to Buccaneers gets a lot of love on ‘Good Morning Football’

With smoke starting to build, could the Bucs find their short and long-term solution in this former Saints quarterback?

Like the rest of us, the crew at Good Morning Football have been doing their best to speculate, articulate, and predict where each free-agent NFL quarterback might land. Given the current lack of secured future with Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team has been a big player in just about every conversation.

This time next week, we should know who will quarterback the Bucs for the foreseeable future. Until then, we’ll all continue to use what information we do have to try and predict the future.

Good Morning Football took another crack at it today, and a connection between Teddy Bridgewater and the Buccaneers took up a solid amount of air-time, in two different segments of the episode.

During a segment titled, “The Free Agency Dating Game”, NFL Network’s Peter Schrager was assigned Bridgewater and then given four potential teams he could match the 27-year old quarterback with.

First up, was the Las Vegas Raiders, to which Schrager said,

“I feel like Teddy might be the perfect, perfect, Jon Gruden quarterback. Smart. Great with the precision, will learn the offense very quickly, and yet....I don’t know if I’m getting that starting gig out of the gate, and if I’m Teddy Bridgewater I’m looking to be a number one.”

He then passed on Bridgewater heading to Vegas, unveiling the second potential suitor for the free-agent quarterback. His reaction upon seeing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers logo appear on the screen said it all, as Schrager immediately got excited about the idea of Tampa and Teddy uniting in 2020.

“You know what. I don’t even care about door number three or door number four. I’m going with Tampa.”, Schrager said. “I’m in on Tampa. If I’m Teddy, I’m going to Tampa. I’ll tell you why. I’ve got two receivers under the age of thirty named Chris Godwin and Mike Evans. I’ve got Bruce Arians who’s the quarterback whisperer. I’ve got a good offensive line. I have to go back to my home state of Florida, and you know what, I like the idea of Teddy Bridgewater in that uniform. I think Teddy Bridgewater to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, makes a lot of sense.”

But they weren’t done talking about Bridgewater at ‘The Breakfast Table’ just yet. In another segment titled with Nate Boyer and Jay Glazer of “Merging Vets and Players”, the question was raised: “Which free-agent QB would you rather have as your starting quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater or Jameis Winston?”

Nate Burleson started the conversation, saying,

“I’ll jump right in, I’m going with Teddy Bridgewater, as much as I’ve been high on Jameis Winston. I said last year, I was drinking my coffee (and) I’m on the show, and I said, ‘Man, Jameis Winston is balling.’ I saw a hand fly across and it was Peter Schrager trying to slap the coffee out of my (hand), and he said, ‘Balling? Balling!?!’. Listen, he led the league with 5,000-yards passing, I know he went 30 for 30 like the ESPN docs. But he fixed his thumb, and he got his eyes fixed. But even with all that said, Teddy Bridgewater is more consistent and I can trust him with the ball in his hand, so I’m going with Teddy Bridgewater even though I do like Jameis Winston.”

Peter Schrager agreed, also pointing out what the quarterback has learned playing behind Drew Brees and emphasizing how much Bridgewater has been loved by teams and players during his time in the NFL.

Jay Glazer also chose Bridgewater over Winston, saying,

“I agree with both you guys I’m going with Teddy Bridgewater because, I mean you talked about him learning under Brees, but how about Sean Payton?...Sean Payton showing him that confidence. This is a guy that also, he was so beloved there (with the New Orleans Saints), but SO beloved with the Vikings. When he went down there, it was like, ‘Oh, my gosh!’. They were in mourning over that and how much they loved him. Teddy Bridgewater is a true leader, and locker room maker.”

So, it was a clean sweep. With everyone at the table agreeing, Bridgewater is the preferred quarterback to Winston if given the option of choosing between the two.

As always, we don’t want to just share their opinions with you, we want yours as well.

What do we think? Given the options of choosing either Teddy Bridgewater or Jameis Winston to quarterback the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are you taking?
