Back for another look around the division as the work week comes to an end. With the combine in full swing along with coaches and front office members speaking to reporters, there’s no shortage of noteworthy news this week. Let’s see what our divisional foes had going on.

New Orleans Saints

Sadly, not all news is good news as was the case for Saints safety Vonn Bell. The star safety for the Saints is dealing with the tragic news of his older brother, Volonte Bell, who passed away in a car accident. The Bell family can be sure that the entire family will be in the prayers of Saints and football fans alike.

Carolina Panthers

For the Panthers, some player news broke as the team officially declined the option to bring back receiver Jarius Wright after two seasons with the team. The move ultimately frees up $3 million in cap room for the Panthers.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcoholic wrote about some fairly surprising information from a year ago that had the team considering trading top running back Devonta Freeman and corner back Desmond Trufant. This news comes after the team placed Vic Beasley on the block prior to last years trade deadline. According to Jason Butt of the Athletic, only Freeman netted interest.

That about does it for this week’s divisional overview in our Batten Down the Hatches series. What was the most surprising piece of news overall from this past week? Freeman getting shopped? Bucs brass openly admitting they are vetting options other than Winston? It’s been a wild one this week, that’s for sure.
