Rob Weintraub of Football Outsiders is making the rounds on his divisional all-star teams and he just finished up the NFC South earlier in the week.

Six Buccaneers made the list, which was good for second-most in the division. The New Orleans Saints finished with the most players picked. They had 15 (!!).

Chris Godwin, Ryan Jensen, Shaquil Barrett, Ndamukong Suh, Lavonte David, and Carlton Davis III all made the team.

Godwin was one of the league’s top-rated receivers in 2019. Jensen bounced back from a disappointing 2018 campaign (he also beat out Alex Mack and Erik McCoy, two pretty good centers). Shaq led the league with 19.5 sacks. Suh was a major player in the team’s no. 1 run defense. David is David.

Davis III is an intriguing selection, especially since Weintraub has him at slot corner. He’s mostly viewed as an outside corner in Tampa Bay, but I think this has more to do with Weintraub wanting the best three corners on his team. I could be wrong.

Weintraub even admitted himself that he is willing to listen for other selections when it comes to the cornerback position:

Finding any decent secondary play in this division is difficult … which, given the high level of passing offenses they all face six games a season, perhaps isn’t surprising. Trufant only played nine games but at least he played decently in them, with four picks. Want to sub in any other corner? I’m all ears.

Hopefully the Bucs can finish with the most players selected in 2020.
