Recent Buccaneers social media activity sheds more light on potential uniform changes

What the tweet did and didn’t say

Are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers getting new uniforms? Are the getting at least an adjustment to the current uniform? At this point, if they’re not, then someone at the AdventHealth Training Center is just being mean.

For right around the time the current uniform was unveiled, there have been those who disliked it in part or as a whole. The ‘alarm clock’ style numbers have seemed to be the biggest sticking point with fans of the team throughout the years.

Through 2019 and the early part of 2020 though, we’ve seen the uniform change conversations gaining more and more steam on social media as fans have gone from pining over the idea to even sharing what they claim to be inside information of changes on the horizon.

Then, on February 12th, the Buccaneers’ own social media team decided to enter the conversation with a stirring video which seems to more than just hint at something new, coming soon.

On the surface, it’s a really well done video with a final product which would fetch a lot of money if it were to be auctioned at some point in the future. Beyond that though, the video absolutely accelerated the conversation and the fan anticipation of a new look for the Bucs in 2020.

Then, on Wednesday, the social media team dropped another tweet which gives some potential information while withholding some at the same time.

First thing to notice, is the logo. It’s the same logo we’ve seen since the unveiling of the - soon to be old - uniform in 2014. Which I think most fans will be happy about. The next thing to observe is the lack of color.

Some have speculated perhaps the team was going to a more white-dominant color scheme, with some ideas and mock-ups even featuring a white helmet. Could this seemingly colorless artwork be a hint towards the move to white as a more prominent part of the team’s uniform?

Or, could it be just a fun - and albeit a little bit trolling - way for the team to put out some information without putting out much?

You’d assume the flag will be the team’s primary color beginning in 2020 and for the foreseeable future. But what color is it? Is the flag red? Orange? Pewter? Hell, is it seafoam green?

An even more fun - or frustrating, depending on how you perceive it - idea, would be to release the same image every Wednesday leading to the reveal with a new portion colored in. Of course, the flag would be last.

Nobody who’s talking knows at this point, and the ones who know ain’t talking. Maybe soon though. March 3rd would be the six-year anniversary of when the Buccaneers unveiled the latest major shift in the team’s uniform design. So fans may not have to wait much longer, although the leap year does complicate things a bit.

But what’s an extra 24 hours when a lot of you have been waiting almost six years?
