When you think about Warrick Dunn on the football field, there’s nothing but good memories.
But for those who know about Dunn’s achievements in the community, there’s nothing but great results.
Dunn is notorious for helping families in need. He started off helping Home for the Holidays, then eventually established his own nonprofit, Warrick Dunn Charities. His charity provides down payment assistance and home furnishings for single parents. To date, Warrick Dunn Charities has served 177 parents and their 477 dependents, which is an incredible number.

That’s not all Dunn has planned, though. Somehow, that’s not enough. Like any ex-NFL player, he’s all about getting to the next level.
Well, Dunn did just that on Wednesday with the launch of WD Communities in Augusta, Georgia. It’s a culmination of Dunn’s 22 years of Homes for the Holidays and 18 years of Warrick Dunn Charities. The goal of WD Communities is as follows:
The goal of WD Communities is to support families from the beginning to the end of the purchase of affordable, or transitional, housing and provide support services, including Financial Literacy, Health & Wellness, Education Attainment, and Entrepreneurship & Workforce Development. The organization is committed to working with families over the course of several years to break generational poverty cycles and contribute to the revitalization of communities. The first three homes being constructed by WD Communities are part of the Laney Walker Bethlehem Historic Revitalization Project in Augusta, Georgia.
WD Communities chose to partner with Augusta Housing Community Development because they both carried the same vision, which was to help families in need of housing, as well as health and wellness ideologies.
“Augusta’s partnership with WD Communities and AMI will prove to be a national model specific to not only affordable housing development, but also health and wellness ideologies sure to bring positive change to every household touched,” says Hawthorne Welcher, director of the City of Augusta’s Housing & Community Development Department. “The Laney Walker/Bethlehem Neighborhoods will forever be changed for the better.”
“Warrick Dunn has become an integral part of the Augusta community and I continue to be very proud of the partnership between Housing and Community Development and WD Communities,” says Hardie Davis, Jr., mayor of Augusta. “This partnership will continue to help Augusta move the needle in providing housing assistance and services to families in the City of Augusta. The Laney Walker/Bethlehem neighborhood will greatly benefit from this development project once completed.”
It’s a great cause, and of course, Dunn is excited to continue helping others in the community.
“This is a very exciting point in the history of the work I have been committed to for a couple of decades,” says founder Warrick Dunn. “WD Communities will take the mission of Warrick Dunn Charities to the next level, offering homes for sale while connecting each family with services to become self-reliant and sustainable.”
Keep it going, Warrick! We can’t wait to see what’s in the future!
