Buccaneers record watch: Week 2

Which players can continue to climb in Tampa Bay’s record book during Thursday’s game in Carolina?

NFL: Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Buccaneers opened their 2019 regular season with a frustrating 31-17 loss on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium. They now look to redeem themselves and even their record on a short week, facing the Carolina Panthers Thursday night in Charlotte. As the team looks for a bounce-back win, there are some individuals who can move their names up in the franchise’s record book.

Let’s see who those guys are heading into Week 2.

Career Passing Yards

With 194 passing yards in Week 1, Jameis Winston became the franchise’s all-time leader, passing Vinny Testaverde.

Career Pass Attempts

Winston has 1,958 pass attempts in his career, ranking him fourth in team history. With 10 against the Panthers, he passes Josh Freeman (1,967) for third.

Career Rushing Touchdowns

Winston and Peyton Barber are tied for the 14th-most rushing touchdowns in franchise history. They’re both one behind Michael Pittman (10) for 13th and four behind Doug Williams (13) for 12th.

If Winston gets to 14 in his Bucs career, he will own the team record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. (Shout out to Bucs Nation reader OneBucPerson for pointing that out!)

Career Receptions

Mike Evans is second all-time in career receptions with 397. He needs 34 more to pass James Wilder (430) for the record.

Career Tackles (Solo)

Lavonte David inched closer to third all-time in solo tackles on Sunday, bringing his career total to 647. With 34 more, he passes Hardy Nickerson (680).

Career Sacks

David has 21.5 sacks in his career, placing him 15th in history. With one more, he passes John Cannon (22) for 14th. Two more pushes him into sole possession of 12th, ahead of Santana Dotson and Lee Roy Selmon (23).

Career Passes Defended

David is stuck at 38 career passes defended, which is good for eighth. With four more, he beats out Brent Grimes (41) for seventh. Five more would move him ahead of John Lynch (42) for sixth.

Career Interceptions

David’s 10 interceptions ties him for 17th in team history. One more would tie him for 15th with Jermaine Phillips and Jeremiah Castille, and two more would obviously move him into sole possession of 15th.

Career Forced Fumbles

With 18 forced fumbles, David needs two more to claim second from Simeon Rice (19).

Career Games Played

Thursday will be Demar Dotson’s 117th career game, moving him one closer to Randy Grimes (118), who sits in 18th all-time.

Lavonte David has currently played the 30th-most games in Bucs history. With his 107th on Thursday night, he will tie Adam Hayward for 29th.
