Bucs’ Kickers Drawing Interest

The Buccaneers have two kickers that can play in the NFL - and other teams want their hands on one of them

Matt Gay has a cannon for a leg and Cairo Santos is extremely reliable. That said, the Buccaneers aren’t keeping both of them. With some major kicking woes going on around the NFL - looking at you Bears, Jets, Vikings, and Falcons - teams are beginning to inquire about the availability of one of the Bucs’ specialists.

Now, the phrasing of this - to me - implies that teams are calling about a specific guy. That does not mean each team is calling about the same guy. Essentially, they’re asking which one can be made available for a trade. Either player will likely receive a late round pick as compensation should it reach that stage, but the Buccaneers have until Sunday to decide which one they’re keeping.

Smart money is on the rookie. They invested draft capital in him and he has more range than Santos. However, Santos is the proven veteran which could hold some clout given the Bucs’ woes at the position for the better part of a decade.

Not an easy decision by any means, but - knock on wood - they really can’t go wrong with either player sticking around.
