Mike Evans and Jordan Whitehead were officially placed on injured reserve Wednesday, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg for the Buccaneers in terms of their injury report. With apparently half the team losing their hamstrings, the Bucs are a hot mess and missing a lot of key players.
Granted, this is giving other guys an opportunity to step up late in this evaluation period and maybe catch the eyes of the coaching staff for next season. However, it puts quite a damper on their ability to win their fifth straight game this weekend against the Houston Texans.
As expected, Chris Godwin did not participate in practice and is expected to miss the game on Saturday. Tanner Hudson (concussion) and Beau Allen (ankle) were the only two other players listed as “DNP” for Wednesday.
Ryan Jensen (elbow) and Anthony Nelson (hamstring) were both full participants, which is great news for both sides of the ball, while Donovan Smith was a limited participant for the second straight practice.
A slight concern is kicker Matt Gay being a limited participant with a groin injury. I’m no doctor, but I think it’s pretty safe to assume that a groin injury for someone whose key contribution is using his leg is not exactly ideal.
For the Texans, they were without star receiver DeAndre Hopkins (illness) and Carlos Hyde (not injury related) while Will Fuller was limited with a hamstring issue.
