The Buccaneers will once again be without outside linebacker Anthony Nelson as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury, but the Atlanta Falcons may be a little more beat up.
Staring running back Devonta Freeman and tight end Austin Hooper will both miss the first of two meetings between these NFC South rivals. Although key defensive ends Adrian Clayborn and Takk McKinley missed practice earlier in the week, it appears both will be available to play today. How much they play we don’t know, but dealing with groin and shoulder injuries respectively, they may be rotated out a little more often than usual.
The Bucs will also once again be without cornerback M.J. Stewart, meaning that rookie safety Mike Edwards might get some time at nickel corner like he did last week against the Saints - where he played extremely well.
A lot of eyes will be on Jamel Dean this week. After a putrid debut as a starter against Seattle, Dean bounced back to be a key player on the defense against Arizona. Last week against the Saints, he didn’t get a single defensive snap. It’ll be interesting to see how, if, and when the Buccaneers go to him this week.
Another player to keep an eye on is outside linebacker Carl Nassib, who may get his first game action in a few weeks since dealing with a groin injury. He came into today listed as questionable so, like Clayborn and McKinley, he may be on a bit of a pitch count.
