For the first time this week, we asked the Bucs Nation Community to select their own Player of the Week. It came with good timing too, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers helped us launch this initiative with a home victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

The nominees for the first vote came from all three phases as Lavonte David, Jamel Dean, Matt Gay, Chris Godwin and Ronald Jones all landed on the list of players available to receive votes.

In the end, it was the defense which dominated votes as David and Dean racked up 83% of the votes between the two, with Lavonte David gaining just 3% more of the votes than his rookie teammate.

David, one of the defensive captains for the Bucs, tied for the team lead in the game with six solo tackles (eight total) and one coming for a loss. But the play of the game from the Pro Bowl worthy linebacker came late in the third quarter with the game tied at 20.

Following Jameis Winston’s second interception of the day, the Arizona Cardinals had the ball at the Tampa Bay ten-yard line with less than two minutes remaining before the start of the final quarter.

On their second offensive play however, Kyler Murray completed a pass to running back David Johnson, which David promptly ripped out of Johnson’s arms for a Buccaneers turnover. The play not only gave Winston and his offense the ball back, but prevented the Cardinals from taking the lead with just one quarter left to play.

Like Bucs Nation Community member flasoxfan said, “LVD made the play of the game.”

Arizona only managed to score three points off of three Buccaneers turnovers, one of the keys to the good guys ultimately coming away with the victory.

For David, as one of the captains of the defense, it was a day for the unit to celebrate as they stepped up in some crucial moments of the game, allowing their offense the opportunity to seal the deal on a late fourth quarter touchdown drive.

Because of his contributions to the overall effort as in individual performer and leader of the defense, Lavonte David is your Bucs Nation Community Player of the Week for Week 10 of the 2019 NFL season.
