The continued fallout from Jameis Winston’s Uber incident continues. According to Darren Rovell and Seth Wickersham of ESPN, Nike has opted not to re-sign Jameis Winston to an endorsement deal.
Per the report, Winston’s contract ended before the suspension was handed down by the NFL and the decision was made by Nike not to renew the deal.
Winston’s marketing agent Russ Spielman didn’t make any comment regarding the end of the relationship when contacted by ESPN.
WInston will likely get signed on by another company but don’t expect it be anything lucrative or major. And seeing as how Winston already had a questionable past, there was a reason you hadn’t already seen him in national marketing campaigns with Nike or any other company. More of the same is a pretty safe bet.
It’s also a strong possibility Winston doesn’t sign on with a new company this season as many may want to wait to see how things go for him during the season - and off-season - before tying their name to him. Like it or not, Winston is considered a high risk due to the off-field incidents - true or not - and major corporations are going to have reservations about associating with him.
