The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that the team has placed running back Charles Sims III on Injured Reserve.
Sims (6-0, 211) has spent the past four seasons with Tampa Bay, playing in 47 games, with two starts, catching 129 passes for 1,190 yards and six touchdowns and rushing 245 times for 958 yards and two touchdowns.
He was injured in the second preseason game against Tennessee and it appears the injury is serious. As the team fielded the first kick-off of the game, Sims went down with a leg injury.
Sims was expected to have to fight for a roster spot with the team having drafted Ronald Jones II and the emergence of Shaun Wilson. The team also has Jacquizz Rodgers still fighting for the potential third down back role with Jones as head coach Dirk Koetter has commented that the starter’s job is Peyton Barber’s for the time being.
