Injuries reportedly not serious for Smith and Evans

Bucs expect both players to be ready for week one.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers seemed to have dodged a major bullet. It was a nervous few hours for the team as they saw two starters leave practice within minutes of each other.

Donovan Smith, left with an apparent lower leg injury, and Justin Evans was carted back to the locker room. At the time, Smith looked like he could have suffered a season ending knee injury, but that doesn’t seem to be the case at this moment. Evans’ injury seemed less significant, but because he was carted off, everyone freaked out a little bit.

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, gave Buccaneer fans some good news on Tuesday evening and provided a bit of an update on both starters.

The Buccaneers really couldn’t afford to lose either player for an extended period of time. The team already is going to be without Jameis Winston for the first three games and it has been well documented how tough their schedule is. Both Evans and Smith are critical to this team’s success and play a vital role on their respective sides of the ball.

Hopefully, the injury bug is hitting Tampa Bay during training camp and the football gods will send them good health during the regular season.
