Many Buccaneers fans were ready to hand Doug Martin his walking papers long before his release earlier this year. The problem had been, who was going to step in and replace him? With another incredible crop of running backs in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Buccaneers were able to use their second round pick to take USC Trojan all-star Ronald Jones II to fill the void.
Jones will share carries with Peyton Barber, at least to start with. Hopefully Jones will emerge and take a stranglehold on the number one position and be the three-down, feature guy for Tampa Bay.
On the latest Locked On Bucs podcast, Bucs Nation’s James Yarcho and David Harrsion spoke with Aaron Hendel of the Conquest Chronicle - SB Nation’s USC page - to find out what the Buccaneers are really getting in Jones, what his weaknesses are, and what are some misconceptions by fans regarding Jones’ abilities.
We then discuss the rest of the running back corps to figure out how the ball is going to be spread around and who can set themselves apart in the three player race for the final two running back spots once training camp begins.
