Many have already chimed in and offered up their opinions about the latest allegations against Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston. But we haven’t heard from his former coach while at Florida State.
Now Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher was asked about Winston — who coached Winston at FSU from 2013-2014. Via Ben Baby of The Dallas Morning News, Fisher said that his former quarterback that carried the team to a National Championship will learn from his mistakes and move on.
“I don’t know the circumstances with Jameis,” Fisher said. “I love Jameis. Hopefully he’ll be able to move on and obviously, that is something that he will be able to move on from. And yes, I love him. I still think he’s a tremendous young man. I really do.
”Unfortunately, he made some bad decisions this past season or whenever he did it. I don’t know exactly when that was. But I still love him. If you’re ever around him, you’ll understand what I mean. There’s not a better team player, a guy who works as much as (anyone).
”But he made a mistake, and obviously he’ll pay the consequences for that, and we’ll move on.”
Fisher echoes what many have already said. So that’s nothing new. But there is a common theme here, and that is that people have said they appreciate who Winston is as a person.
It’ll be a matter of time when the court of public opinion feel the same. Or rather, the court of social media.
