The Buccaneers wrapped up day three of their 13 day OTA program today and according to head coach Dirk Koetter, it was an extremely impressive day Thursday for the new look Buc defense.
“A lot of interceptions today. I think they might have broken the One Buc [Place] interception record [Thursday],” Koetter said. “Too many, but good for the defense. Good job for those guys.”
It’s good to see the new pieces, especially the rookies making an impact this early in the process. You want guys such as Carlton Davis and M.J. Stewart to get as much experience as possible before week 1 rolls around. So far, according to all reports, Davis has been extremely impressive and has made a great first impression on the coaching staff.
“He’s been real consistent. All of the rookies that are practicing are holding their own and that’s why you draft them, that’s why you draft those guys,” Koetter said. “Carlton is off to a very fast start.”
I wouldn’t read too much into the offense struggling during an OTA practice in May. If it continues to happen come training camp then there may be some cause for concern, but all Buccaneer fans should be happy to hear that their new defense is developing nicely early on this spring.
