Write the Ship: NFL Draft day special edition

Bucs Nation mailbag is open for a special draft day edition of Write the Ship.

NFL: Combine Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL Draft is just a few hours away and we’ve opened up the mailbag for your deaft questions.

In this special edition of Write the Ship, we address two questions from Bucs fans regarding trading down and drafting a running back.

Absolutely. Also, let’s not forget how general manager Jason Licht stated that all options are on the table, including a trade. The only unfortunate thing here is that we do not know for certain if another team is willing to trade up with the Bucs. Latest rumor out there is that Green Bay wants to trade into the Top 10. Would the Buccaneers listen if they call? We don’t know how far back Licht is willing to go and what he’s asking. But even without trading, they can still land at least two top talent players out of those positions with their forst two selections. Just depends on how they are prioritized.

There will still be plenty of options available outside of Saquon Barkley. The question becomes which ones will fall into the second round. Assuming the Bucs don’t trade and pick up an extra first round pick (like Buffalo’s for example), then they have to hope there isn’t a run on running backs. The good news is that we’ve seen trends that experts believe there will be a run on cornerbacks late in the first. If that holds true, the Bucs can have a guy like Derrius Guice or Sony Michel possibly available at the top of the second round. Other names to consider can be Nick Chubb or Rashaad Penny.
