The Buccaneers continue their offseason of good decisions and moves. Their latest move comes in the form of picking up franchise quarterback Jameis Winston’s fifth-year option of his rookie contract.
Tampa Bay Times’ Rick Stroud had the news on Twitter.
#Bucs have picked up the fifth year option of $20.922-million for QB Jameis Winston. Guaranteed against injury.

Bucs can still extend Winston, which if they do may see that fifth-year figure drop.
The 24-year-old has set a couple records in his young NFL career. He owns the most touchdowns before turning 24 with 69 and also has the NFL’s most passing yards prior to the age of 24 (11,636).
An injury to his throwing shoulder limited him last season, where he could have had his third consecutive 4,000-yard passing season.
The 2015 first-overall pick has thrown 69 touchdowns with 44 interceptions and has started 45 games for the Bucs. He was a 2015 Pro Bowler as well as being voted to PFWA’s All-Rookie Team and Pepsi’s NFL Rookie of the Year.
