The Buccaneers defense will be without their defensive captain for the remainder of 2018.
Tampa Bay head coach confirmed Monday that veteran linebacker Kwon Alexander is done for the year with a torn ACL. Rookie linebacker Jack Cichy, who came in to replace Alexander during Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, also tore his ACL.
MRIs on Monday confirmed the team’s fears. Head coach Dirk Koetter confirmed the news during his day-after-game presser.
“[It’s] unfortunate,” said Koetter during his press conference. “Kwon was playing so well and he’s the heart and soul of our defense. It’s just very unfortunate. Our locker room at halftime was extremely emotional last night. Kwon came out of the training room right about the time we were getting ready to go back on the field. It was emotional. You can tell that the guys really care. Kwon talked to the team there for a couple minutes right as we were going back on the field.”
Alexander was second on the team in tackles with 45 including six for loss.
