The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got one of the steals of the 2017 NFL draft in wide receiver Chris Godwin, something confirmed again this week as the rookie receiver was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Godwin racked up seven catches for 111 yards, including the 39-yard touchdown that won the Bucs the game with mere seconds remaining. Godwin put up 34 catches for 525 yards and one touchdown over the season, and was surprisingly productive, consistently putting up big gains.
Godwin’s performance is especially impressive given the team’s impressive array of receiving weapons, with Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson, Adam Humphries, O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate leaving little room for a third-round rookie to shine. Somehow, in part due to injuries among the other players, Godwin made his presene known this season, though.
While the Bucs will need to do some rebuilding this offseason, at least their receiving corps should be taken care of.
