The Tampa Bay Buccaneers play their second game of the season today against the Minnesota Vikings. One week after demolishing the Chicago Bears in Tampa, they get the chance to dominate another Midwest, NFC North team with a terrible quarterback.
That’s because the Vikings will turn to Case Keenum with Sam Bradford out with a knee injury for the second consecutive week. Keenum shouldn’t present much of a challenge for a Bucs defense that looked absolutely dominant last week—but then Keenum beat the Bucs in shootouts in each of the last two years, his only two games against Tampa.
Of course, this Bucs defense is not last year’s, nor the one we saw the year before. The Bucs pass rush looked impressive in their first game, and more playing time for T.J. Ward should give a boost to a secondary that produced two interceptions against the Vikings.
The real key will be the Bucs offense, though. The Bucs beat the Bears 26-7, but most of those points came off turnovers and the offense struggled in the red zone. They certainly weren’t bad, but we didn’t see the promised explosive offense, either. Jameis Winston will get another chance to find DeSean Jackson deep, today.
