Panthers’ Greg Olsen goes on injured reserve

The Panthers will have to make do without their star tight end.

The Carolina Panthers have struggled to put together a productive offense this year, and things are not about to get easier for them: they’ve placed tight end Greg Olsen on injured reserve with a broken foot, the team announced today. Olsen suffered the injury against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

With an offensive line straight out of hell, no running game to speak of and few receiving weapons, that leaves Cam Newton having to do everything for the Panthers offense to give them a chance to win. So far, the defense and bad opponents have gotten them off to a 2-0 start, but that could change quickly.

Olsen could come back in eight weeks if he recovers quickly from his broken foot, but he’s sure to miss at least Carolina’s first game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs and Falcons will want to take full advantage of that fact over the next two months.
