The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have lost their star middle linebacker against the Chicago Bears: Kwon Alexander had to leave the field with a hamstring injury and was announced as doubtful to return, which is not a good sign.
Alexander started the game by picking off Mike Glennon and looked like he was going to continue to build on his excellent sophomore campaign. His interception helped the Bucs get a 17-0 lead in the first half.
With Alexander out, rookie Kendell Beckwith will replace him. That may not be a big problem in the run game, but Beckwith doesn’t have Alexander’s chops in pass coverage and you can expect the Bears to target him. With Devante Bond out with injury too, the Bucs are pretty limited at linebacker and are forced to turn to third-stringer Adarius Glanton on the strong side.
It’s not at all clear how serious Alexander’s injury is. We should have more information after the game.
