The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were criminally underusing Russell Shepard in the passing game for years on end. That stops this year, because he’s not on the Bucs’ roster anymore: he’s now with the Carolina Panthers, who signed him in free agency.
And wow is that signing ever working out.
The Catch. The SPIN. The End Zone.

Whelp.
Anyway, none of that for the Bucs this year. It makes some sense: Shepard was kind of surplus to requirements, and they saw him mostly as a special teams player. That was a mistake, if you ask me, but it’s not like the Bucs are lacking in receivers now: Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson, Adam Humphries and Chris Godwin are a really good group, and Shepard would have had a hard time getting any playing time at a receiver.
Still, it’s a little annoying to see him do well elsewhere instead of in Tampa—especially when the team he’s with is the Carolina Panthers.
