The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been very lucky with injuries so far, even with minor nicks—none of those have been noteworthy or to significant starters. The one player struggling with a long-term injury is Jacquies Smith.
Today, though, Ali Marpet was missing at practice due to what Dirk Koetter called “a little ankle,” that should take him out for a day or so per JoeBucsFan. I’m pretty sure Marpet has pretty big ankles, but this whole omitting-the-word-“injury”-thing is very NFL.
Of course, we’ve seen minor injuries turn into injuries that take quite some time to recover from before. Sometimes “he’ll be back soon” will stretch into “in two months”, but there’s no real indication that that’s the case here.
Ankle injuries do tend to linger, which might keep Marpet out of the Bucs’ first preseason game on Thursday night. That won’t be a massive change from usual: first-team players generally play around two series in a team’s first preseason game.
