Latest NFL Power Rankings have Bucs on edge of playoffs

Will Jameis Winston get the Bucs where they need to go?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers want to make the playoffs this year, and really should if they want to consider their season to be successful. ESPN’s latest power rankings suggest the Bucs aren’t quite at that level, though, ranking them 13th overall.

Jameis Winston is starring on "Hard Knocks" this preseason and he may be close to starring in the NFL. His 65 Total QBR last season was 13th in the NFL, ahead of players such as Derek Carr, Russell Wilson and Philip Rivers.

The Bucs 13th, Jameis Winston 13th (last year). That makes sense: the Bucs are going to go about as far as Winston can carry them, with a boost from some really good skill players and a hopefully decent defense.

In the first preseason game, the Bucs quarterback looked like he was in peak form, though: accurate, good under pressure, zip on the ball, patient but not overly so—he just needs to work on his red zone throws a little more, by the looks of that game.

If that performance continues tomorrow, there’s a good chance that #13 ranking is far too low, and Winston will be able to push the Bucs into the playoffs with ease. Let’s hope that’s exactly how this season will play out.
