The Tampa Bay area got a nice surprise today: the 2021 Super Bowl has been awarded to the Tampa Bay area, after torrential downpour in California has delayed construction on the new Los Angeles stadium, which was set to host the game.

The area and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been trying to get a Super Bowl to town for years, but kept coming up short. The upgrades that have been added and continue to be added to the stadium the past years were meant, among other things, to help their chances—but it seems those upgrades may not have been necessary. They’re still cool, though.

The last time the Tampa Bay area hosted a Super Bowl was in 2009, when the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals in one of the most exciting Super Bowls in the past two decades.

So Super Bowl LV comes to Tampa. Super Bowl LVI will go to Los Angeles instead, ensuring that they actually have a completed stadium to play in. Awesome.
