NFL Odds 2017: Buccaneers last in the NFC South

The betting markets do not like the Bucs’ odds.

Offseason times means offseason posts means many, many predictions for the upcoming season. Today’s second pair of predictions: betting odds! Bovada published their division and conference odds and...they don’t look great for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Bucs get 18/1 odds to win the conference, tenth in the NFC. Worse yet, they have the longest odds to win the NFC South at 7/2. The betting markets don’t really believe Tampa Bay has turned a corner, which puts them in one camp with Football Outsiders.

In fact, this follows another recent trend: third-party analysts who use statistical models, like Football Outsiders and betting markets, tend to be down on the Bucs. Third-party analysts who don’t rely on statistical models tend be more optimistic. Take that however you will.

Regardless, these odds are disappointing, as always. Three upsides: one, betting markets are not clairvoyant. They are often wrong. It happens. Two: you could make a bunch of money betting on the Bucs, if you’re a betting man (of course, you could also lose a bunch of money doing so).

Three: We get to rant about how the Bucs are being underestimated for a few more months. Until the team either proves us or the betting markets wrong.
