2017 NFL Draft results: Buccaneers pick Chris Godwin

The Bucs add another weapon for Jameis Winston in the third round.

With the 20th pick of the third round of the 2017 NFL draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected wide receiver Chris Godwin out of Penn State.

Godwin put up over 2,000 receiving yards over the past two years, and had a whopping 11 touchdowns last season. The 6’1”, 205 lbs. receiver has good speed, having run a 4.42-second 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine, but is at his best when making contested catches. He will go up and get that jump ball, which is a trait Jameis Winston will appreciate.

With Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson on the roster, Godwin will have to compete for playing time with slot receiver Adam Humphries and may not make an immediate impact.

Winston has to be pretty happy with this draft so far anyway. After getting a massive steal in the form of Alabama tight end O.J. Howard, and signing DeSean Jackson in free agency, now he gets another young, quality receiver in Chris Godwin, too. No running backs to help that running game, though there are plenty of backs still on the board and the Bucs should target one tomorrow.

The Bucs have no more picks today, though there’s always a small chance they decide to trade back up into the third round. Stick with us for all of the coverage of the rest of the draft, both today and tomorrow.
