The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may or may not be going after wide receiver DeSean Jackson. Reports have linked the two teams, but pre-free agency reports are often wrong, so who really knows?
According to a report by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, DeSean Jackson is widely ‘expected’ to seek between $10 and $12 million per year. That’s quite a lot of money, but not as much as it used to be. According to Over The Cap, seven receivers currently make more than $12 million per year, and 16 make $10 million per year or more.
Those numbers will go up this season, too, as the leaguewide cap was raised by another $10 million per team. $10-$12 million per year is expensive for Jackson, but not absurdly so. The speedster does have a unique skillset, after all, and he has been pretty consistently productive.
The Bucs can easily afford to pay Jackson the kind of money he reportedly wants. Whether they’ll actually want to pay him that kind of cash is another question entirely, though.
