The NFL could use an exciting playoff game. They have yet to produce one of those this postseason, with numerous blowouts making for some very boring viewing. Even the much-hyped matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons turned into a comfortable 36-20 win for Matt Ryan and company.
Hopefully that’ll change tonight, with the Super Bowl acting as the finale to an uneventful postseason, marred by several injured quarterbacks and their predictable associated team collapses.
If we can trust the oddsmakers, we can at least expect a close game. They give the New England Patriots a three-point edge on the Atlanta Falcons, which should lead to a very close game. Of course, that’s no guarantee: plenty of closely-estimated games have gone on to be blowouts, or completely boring in different ways.
That’s unlikely to happen tonight, though. The Falcons have one of the most consistent and explosive offenses in the NFL, while Tom Brady always manages to push New England’s offense forward, and their defense can put up a much better fight than Atlanta’s.
So we can expect an exciting game in this postseason, finally. And otherwise, there’s always the halftime show to look forward to.
