The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have benched Jameis Winston after he took several hits to his shoulder. Ryan Fitzpatrick has started the second half of their game against the New Orleans Saints, and looks ready to finish the game.
Dirk Koetter told the FOX broadcast crew that Jameis Winston would only go back in in an emergency situation.
Winston has been playing through an AC joint shoulder injury for a month now, with mixed results. At the end of the second half today, he took one big hit that saw him land on his shoulder. His subsequent throws looked terrible, and he did not appear to be healthy enough to productively lead this offense.
Winston wasn’t very productive in this game or last week, though he had one of the best games of his career the week before while also playing through the same injury. He left this game having completed 7 of 13 passes for just 67 yards and no touchdowns or turnovers. He also took two sacks.
