Jameis Winston’s recovery from his shoulder injury is not going as planned: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback will have to sit out a third week, and will miss Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. That’s what head coach Dirk Koetter said today.
Winston has been dealing with a shoulder injury for two months now, but initially played through it. He kept aggravating the injury and playing worse every week, though, and the Bucs have been starting Ryan Fitzpatrick instead—which has led to wins both times, so I guess the result is pretty good.
There’s little reason to believe that Winston’s job is in danger, though, and he should start once he’s healthy. Prior to the injury, he was having a pretty good season. But the Bucs’ record (which basically precludes them from playoff participation) and Fitzpatrick’s okay play mean the team need not be in a rush to get their starting quarterback back on the field.
