Watch rookie Justin Evans pick off Jay Cutler

The Bucs’ safety has been very promising this season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense has gotten off to a pretty mediocre start against the Miami Dolphins, allowing Jay Cutler to pass for 76 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter, and allowing the Dolphins to add 76 rushing yards to boot.

There’s one bright spot, though: rookie safety Justin Evans, who picked off Jay Cutler in the end zone.

That’s a great job by Evans, who looks great undercutting that route. It’s not easy to do that in the shortened field that is the red zone.

Justin Evans now has two interceptions on the season, which is pretty impressive given the fact that he didn’t get any significant playing time until a few weeks into the season. Oh, and then there’s the fact that he’s doing this as a rookie, while safety is a notoriously difficult position for rookies to pick up.

The Bucs appear to have a future star on their roster in Justin Evans. If he can keep developing like this, they won’t have to worry about the back end of their coverage. Now for the rest of it to be fixed.
