Jameis Winston’s shoulder injury has healed enough for him to start against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter announced today.
Winston injured his shoulder against the Arizona Cardinals last week, and could not finish the game despite attempting to play through the injury. That injury turned out to be a sprained AC joint, which is a fairly common but not disastrous injury.
Winston’s accuracy was noticeably affected, and that may be an issue this week too—don’t be surprised if he’s a little more scattershot than usual. But at least the Bucs won’t have to rely on Ryan Fitzpatrick to beat the Bills.
The Bucs’ season hangs in the balance right now, as they have one of the toughest remaining schedules in the NFL. At 2-3 they’re last in the NFC South and need to start stringing together wins in a hurry to stay in the playoff race.
