Dirk Koetter: Jameis Winston is day-to-day

Head coach Dirk Koetter confirmed today what had been reported earlier: Jameis Winston sprained the AC joint in his throwing shoulder, but the injury shouldn’t keep him out for too long.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach characterized Winston’s status as day-to-day rather than week-to-week, and from the sound of it he’s likely to play on Sunday. Koetter didn’t expect Winston to throw on Wednesday or Thursday, so don’t read too much into his practice absences.

If Winston can’t go, the Bucs will turn to Ryan Fitzpatrick, who actually did an okay-ish job against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Obviously, though, Fitzpatrick isn’t someone you can rely on for a season, and the Bucs are even more doomed than they already are if Winston can’t return soon.

Thankfully, all signs point to a swift recover for Winston. Let’s hope those signs hold true.
