Mike Evans had the best catch of the 2016 NFL season

New, comments

NFL.com made a neat video of the top 50 catches of the 2016 NFL season (via Buccaneers.com), and guess who’s at number one?

Yup, it’s Mike Evans. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver had that one ridiculous one-handed catch against the Atlanta Falcons. Not only did he adjust to that catch, not only did he bring it in with one hand, he then held on through a ridiculous hard helmet-to-helmet hit by Keanu Neal — one that miraculously did not draw a flag.

Too bad it was probably the most meaningless catch of the season. The Bucs were down 33 to 14 at the end of the third quarter at the time, and there was virtually no chance of them coming back. It was a terrific, absolutely ridiculous catch — it just didn’t do them all that much good.

But wow, was that catch awesome. It was Odell Beckham Jr.-esque. Those catches don’t come along very often, but the mere fact that Evans can do this says a lot about the level he was playing at this year.
