The Tampa Bay Buccaneers escaped with a win and a winning season against the Carolina Panthers today, but they had some bad news. Not just the fact that they were eliminated from the playoffs — that was bound to happen — but they lost longsnapper Andrew DePaola to a torn ACL, head coach Dirk Koetter said after the game, per Jay Recher of 620 WDAE.
DePaola has been with the Bucs since 2013, with Greg Schiano installing his former college player as their longsnapper in his second season on the job. DePaola’s done well since then, as far as we can tell at least, and was re-signed this offseason. But that torn ACL is likely to put next season in jeopardy, and the Bucs will likely have to find a different longsnapper this offseason.
