Rams vs. Buccaneers delayed over lightning at crucial point

Update: Bucs now saying the game will resume around 8:30 p.m. ET.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Rams have hit the two minute warning, and will stay there for quite some time: the game has been suspended because of lightning in the area. That delay will likely last until about 7:50 p.m. ET, the way it’s looking right now.

That lightning delay came with the Rams up 37-32, having the ball at their own five-yard line, on third-and-11. In other words: one more play before the Rams could either kneel it out, or they’d be forced to punt it back to the Bucs, who need a touchdown to win.

That’s a pretty excruciating point for a game to go to commercial, let alone be suspended for a significant length of time. But that’s where we are.

The Bucs had come back from a 37-26 deficit with just over four minutes left in the game, caused by a horrifying defensive performance against a team that had scored just nine points all season. Somehow, the Bucs still have a chance to win, though.
